Fear

--

The anguish in my mother’s eyes
tell me something is wrong
She hides from me
like a little child playing hide and seek

Her eyes seem to ask questions
like the blank pages of an open book

Dread knots my stomach
I don’t know why
Too young to understand

Trembling, like a leaf in a storm,
I lay my head down
and wait for it to come

The red and blue
flashing lights
like fire and ice,
Tears streaming
down my face

Then I awaken
wondering where
reality stops and dreams begin
